Pornography: A pandemic in the world of technology.

The world is facing a horrific pandemic with multiple consequences, and nothing is being done about it. In third world countries like Pakistan the problem is not even acknowledged and left as a taboo subject.

How much porn is accessible online

· 28,258 users are watching pornography on the internet every second

• 68 million search queries related to pornography- 25% of total searches- are generated every day

• 2.5 billion emails containing porn are sent or received

The costs of pornography

• About 200,000 Americans are classified as “porn addicts.”

• 40 million American people regularly visit porn sites.

• 35% of all internet downloads are related to pornography.

Pornography and its effects on teens

· It hinders sexual development. Pornography viewing by teens disorients them during the developmental phase when they have to learn how to handle their sexuality and when they are most vulnerable to uncertainty about their sexual beliefs and moral values

· It raises the risk of depression. A significant relationship also exists among teens between frequent pornography use and feelings of loneliness, including major depression.

· It creates distorted expectations which hinder healthy sexual development. Adolescents exposed to high levels of pornography have lower levels of sexual self-esteem

In my opinion, the Pakistani youth who have no one to confide in turn to pornography as the sole outlet to channel frustration.
